Darbhanga: A couple in Darbhanga recently got married at the famous Shyama Mai temple, sparking discussions. Pradeep Mandal, a resident of Ghanashyampur village, and Rita Kumari, from Supaul district, had been in a relationship for almost eight years. Both families were not in favor of the marriage. Pradeep is disabled and does not have both hands, while Rita is perfectly healthy. The most intriguing aspect of the wedding was the exchange of garlands. Instead of Pradeep putting the garland on Rita, he used his feet, and the people present at the temple blessed the couple. The bride explained that they chose to get married on their own terms.

The groom, Pradeep Mandal, revealed that his new wife is his elder brother’s sister-in-law. They had been in love for the past eight years. However, neither of their families agreed to the marriage, so they decided to run away from home and get married at the Shyama Mai temple. If their families still do not accept their relationship, they are prepared to live in Darbhanga. Despite being disabled, Pradeep has completed his graduation and is skilled in operating a computer using his feet.

Both hands were lost due to a high-tension wire accident. Pradeep is the youngest among his three siblings. In 2008, when electricity came to his village, he was playing outside his house. During this time, a 33,000-volt wire broke and fell on him, resulting in the loss of both his hands. He underwent extensive treatment, but eventually had to have his hands amputated.
