Storm destroys crops in Kishanganj
In Thakurganj block’s Kanpur Panchayat in Kishanganj, a storm on Wednesday night destroyed 10 to 15 acres of maize and banana crops in the fields. This has resulted in an estimated loss of lakhs for many farmers.
Farmers devastated by the loss
A banana farmer mentioned that they come from very poor families. Due to the sudden storm last night, the standing banana crop was completely destroyed. Now, we have no way to cultivate the fields. We rely on farming to provide for our families. Nearly 8 to 10 acres of banana crop has been destroyed, with a cost of over 10 lakhs.
Corn farmers affected
Corn farmers used to take loans for farming on interest. The storm last night destroyed around 6 to 7 acres of corn crop. We have no other means of employment.
Demand for compensation
Kanpur Panchayat head representative Sohel, also known as Raja, and RJD leader Mustak Alam stated that they will demand compensation from the District Agriculture Officer for the farmers whose crops have been damaged.
किशनगंज में ठाकुरगंज प्रखंड की कानपुर पंचायत में बुधवार की देर रात आंधी आने से खेत में लगे 10 से 15 एकड़ मक्के और केले की फसल बर्बाद हो गई। इससे कई किसानों को लाखों का नुकसान होने का अनुमान है। केला किसान ने बताया कि उनके परिवार के लिए खेती करना जीवन का आधार है, लेकिन आंधी के कारण उनकी पूरी केले की फसल नष्ट हो गई है। मक्के की फसल वाले किसानों का कहना है कि उन्होंने ब्याज पर पैसे लेकर मक्के की खेती की थी, लेकिन आंधी के कारण उनकी भी फसल नुकसान हुआ है। कनकपुर पंचायत के मुखिया ने किसानों की मदद के लिए जिला कृषि पदाधिकारी से मुआवजा मांगने की बात कही है।
