District council members have submitted a memorandum to the chief secretary, demanding a meeting to bring a motion of no confidence against the district council president and vice president. The memorandum, signed by 17 district council members, accuses the president and vice president of lack of interest in development projects, not spending development funds on time as per the Panchayati Raj Act, and not calling district council meetings on time. The council members have also appealed to the relevant authorities to hold a special meeting to discuss the motion of no confidence.
According to sources, the district council has become a battleground for the Mahagathbandhan and several prominent BJP leaders. The current chairman, Naina Kumari, was appointed by the Mahagathbandhan leaders as the district council president. However, after two years, the leaders of the NDA have started efforts to appoint a BJP leader as the district council president. To secure the position of district council president, the wife of BJP leader Amit Kumar, former district council president Karuna Kumari, has been brought forward. So far, no candidate has come forward against the current vice president, Dr. Sheetal Prasad Yadav. The current and former district council president, Naina Kumari, is making efforts to lure council members to keep her position secure. Recently, around 27 council members were expelled in the name of the new year. Meanwhile, Amit Kumar, husband of former district council president Karuna Kumari, is going door-to-door to gather support from council members.
One district council member, on the condition of anonymity, stated that the two-year term of chairman Naina Devi has expired, and now a motion of no confidence can be brought. Keeping this in mind, a memorandum has been submitted to bring the motion of no confidence. To gather support and magical numbers, the game of money has now begun. One candidate has reportedly offered two lakh rupees to a council member. Similarly, other candidates are also making promises and offering money to secure the chairmanship position.
