ED arrests Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam in Tender Commission scam
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Rural Development Department Minister Alamgir Alam on Wednesday in connection with the Tender Commission scam. ED will present Alamgir in the special court of PMLE for remand. Alamgir’s PS Sanjeev Lal and his employee Jahangir were arrested by the investigation agency on May 6. Cash amounting to 32.20 crores was found in Jahangir’s flat during the raid. ED has been interrogating both of them in remand for the past eight days.
Allegations of money laundering against Minister Alamgir Alam and his associates
Sanjeev Lal revealed during questioning that he had been collecting money for the Minister Alamgir as per his instructions. He used to hide the money received from the Tender Commission and had kept it in a flat on Haramu Road in the name of his employee Jahangir. The ED has seized a total of 37.29 crores so far in connection with the Tender Commission scam. The investigation has revealed the involvement of several officers in the scam.
Minister Alamgir Alam refuses to resign despite arrest
After being arrested in the Tender Commission scam, Minister Alamgir Alam has not resigned from his post. There is speculation about his resignation at the top level in the government. However, no decision has been made yet. Earlier, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had suggested that Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren should not resign. Similarly, in Maharashtra, NCP Minister Nawab Malik did not resign even after being arrested for money laundering.
ED seizes 37.29 crores in connection with the Tender Commission scam
ED has conducted continuous raids since May 6 in connection with the Tender Commission scam and has seized a total of 37.29 crores. The highest amount of 32.20 crores was recovered from the flat of Sanjeev Lal’s domestic employee Jahangir. Other amounts were seized from Lal’s close associate Munna Singh, contractor Rajiv Singh, Lal’s project building Chamber, and some old notes. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the scam.
