Initiative to Include Voters’ Names in the List through Jeevika Group
The Election Commission is making efforts to ensure that every eligible voter’s name is included in the voter list before the Lok Sabha elections. In line with this, Chief Electoral Officer HR Srinivas has initiated a collaboration with Jeevika Group, which has a wide network in the state. A meeting between CEO HR Srinivas and CEO of Jeevika resulted in an agreement to include voters’ names through Jeevika’s vast network. The state has approximately 10.60 lakh livelihood groups and 1.40 crore Jeevika Didis connected through these groups.
The collaboration with Jeevika aims to include the names of eligible voters in the voter list in rural areas, reducing the Election Commission’s reliance on teachers who currently serve as Booth Level Officers (BLO) for this task. Jeevika groups will work to motivate people to include the names of voters, with a special focus on women voters. Jeevika will also run an awareness campaign to increase voter turnout among women.
Improved Visibility of Voters’ Photos
The Election Commission is also working to rectify errors in the voter list, including the clarity of voters’ photos. While 100% photo coverage has been achieved in the voter list, there have been instances where photos are mismatched with the names. To address this, the Commission has instructed a special campaign to correct photographs before the Lok Sabha elections. This process should be completed by September 29.
Fixing Errors in the Voter List
The Commission has emphasized the need to ensure the quality of photographs in the voter list and to remove blurred or incorrect photos. Any photos where the voter’s image is replaced by that of another person or an icon should also be removed. This directive applies to the photos of the 7 crore 58 lakh voters in the state.
