Farmers protested against the construction of the Amas-Darbhanga Expressway, demanding fair compensation for their land.

Farmers in Khaspur village, Patna, protested on Friday against the construction of the Amas-Darbhanga Expressway. This project is part of the Bharatmala initiative, and tensions rose when officials began work despite the protests. The police intervened, removing farmers from the fields as they demanded compensation for the land being used.

During the protest, some farmers were detained by the police, which led to increased anger among the crowd. After the farmers were removed, construction workers quickly began leveling the land using JCB machines. Many farmers feel that they are being forced out without proper compensation for their land.

Dev Kumar, a farmer leader, spoke out about the situation, claiming this has been a long-standing issue. He mentioned that the farmers are not against the road construction but are asking for fair payment as per the Land Acquisition Act of 2013. They want compensation that reflects the current market value of their land.

Another farmer, Shatrughan Kumar, expressed frustration that no officials would engage with them during the protest. He pointed out that their crops were damaged in the process and highlighted the constitutional right to voice their concerns. Farmers are willing to give up their land but want to ensure they get a fair deal.

Sunil Kumar, the Executive Magistrate at the site, denied the farmers’ claims. He stated that the construction is proceeding on the orders of the District Magistrate and accused some elements of misleading the farmers. He assured that the matter of compensation is under review and will be handled according to regulations.
