Rajkishor Baski, a renowned footballer from Kurumapahadi village in Dumka Sadar block, who had showcased brilliant performances in several national level competitions between 1986-90, has passed away. He was 55 years old and had been unwell for the past few days. On Tuesday evening, he took his last breath. Rajkishor was the captain of the football team of Bhagalpur University and under his leadership, the university had won the East Zone Championship at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. He had also represented Dumka district 15 times in the Moin-ul-Haq Trophy. Playing as a central half, he played a crucial role in leading the team to victory with his enthusiasm. He was also a member of the referee association and remained connected to the sport throughout his life.

Born on January 1, 1968, Rajkishor completed his education from St. Joseph High School, Guhiyajori. He passed his matriculation from there in 1984. In 1988-89, when renowned Indian goalkeeper Peter Thangaraj arrived for the Ravi Mehta Trophy, he praised Rajkishor’s game and even offered him opportunities to play for several big teams. Despite receiving job offers multiple times, he never left the football field due to his love for the game and players. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters. The news of his demise has deeply saddened former Chief Minister Dr. Lois Marandi, former footballer Brentius Kisku, Jeevan Hembram, Bibi Guha, Yogesh Chandra Murmu, Dinesh Murmu, Mahendra Tudoo, Mahendra Hamsada, Remand Hembram, Ramesh Tudoo, Shivdhan Hembram, Motilal Besra, Father Alucius Murmu (Principal of St. Joseph School, Baksibandh), Father Bernard Murmu, and others. A large number of football enthusiasts, fans, and relatives attended his last rites. His untimely demise has left the sports community in Dumka in deep mourning.

In another news related to Dumka, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has ordered the removal of the Chudka crossing on the way to the railway station, but the villagers have reopened the road after an hour-long closure.
