Jharkhand High Court to hear bail plea of former CM Hemant Soren in land scam case
The bail plea of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who is currently in jail in a land scam case, will be heard in the Jharkhand High Court today. Earlier, on June 10, the case was heard in the vacation bench of Justice Rangan Mukhopadhyay for two hours. Kapil Sibal, representing Hemant Soren, told the court that the case being pursued by the Enforcement Directorate against him is related to a land dispute involving Bhuihari Nature, which cannot be transferred. Therefore, it does not constitute a criminal case.
ED to present its side during today’s hearing
During today’s hearing, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) will present its side. It is believed that the court could make an important decision today. Kapil Sibal raised questions on the evidence presented by the ED during the argument. He pointed out that there were no complaints or FIRs filed at the time of the alleged land grab by Hemant Soren in 2009-10.
Bail plea rejected by Special Court
On May 13, Hemant Soren’s bail plea was rejected by the Special Court regarding a money laundering case. He had filed a petition in the Special Court alleging wrongful framing of charges and sought bail. The Special Court dismissed his plea on May 13. Prior to that, he had approached the Supreme Court for bail, but his plea was also denied.
Supreme Court expresses dissatisfaction with Soren’s plea
During the hearing in the Supreme Court, the bench expressed dissatisfaction with the plea filed by Hemant Soren, stating that facts were being concealed in the petition. The court also mentioned that the ED’s Special Court had taken cognizance of the money laundering case against Soren, which he failed to mention. Subsequently, the court refused to intervene in the matter.
