Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren Arrested in Land Scam Case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested four new individuals, including former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, in connection with an alleged illegal land grab and money laundering case. Those detained under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) include Antu Tirkey, Priya Ranjan Sahay, Bipin Singh, and Irshad. The total number of people taken into custody in this case has now increased to eight.
Immediate Resignation and Subsequent Arrest of Hemant Soren
Hemant Soren, who resigned as Chief Minister in January, was arrested by the ED shortly after stepping down from his position. He is currently in judicial custody at the Birsa Munda Jail in Hotwar. Apart from Soren, former Deputy Inspector Bhanu Pratap Prasad, Mohammad Saddam Hussain, and Afshar Ali have also been arrested in connection with the case.
Allegations Against Hemant Soren and Others
The ED has accused Soren and others of illegally taking possession of 8.86 acres of land in Ranchi. The agency has filed charges against Soren, Prasad, Raj Kumar Pahan, Hilarius Kachhap, and alleged accomplice Binod Singh in a special PMLA court on March 30. The ED has also conducted searches on the land in Ranchi and requested the court to seize the properties.
Corruption Charges and Land Scam Investigation
Several individuals, including government officials and state authorities, are facing corruption charges and land scam allegations in Jharkhand. The main accused in the case is Prasad, who was the custodian of government records. The ED has stated that there is an ongoing racket in Jharkhand involving the manipulation of land records in Ranchi.
