Former MLA Sentenced to Life Imprisonment in Chhapra

A former MLA from Chhapra, Bihar has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the court for a case dating back 28 years. The case is related to the abduction and murder of Shatrughan Gupta, a resident of Turkia in the Panapur police station area. The accused former MLA has been sentenced under various sections of the law to rigorous imprisonment and fines.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

In a hearing conducted via video conferencing, the court issued a verdict for the accused in the Panapur police station case. The accused, Tarakeshwar Singh, has been sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of twenty thousand rupees under sections 302 and 364 of the IPC. Additional penalties include extra imprisonment for not paying the fines within the specified time frames.

Legal Representation and Orders

During the trial, the government’s public prosecutor and defense attorneys were present in court. The court ordered all sentences to run concurrently. The case dates back to January 10, 1996, when Babulal Gupta lodged a complaint at the Panapur police station, accusing former MLA Tarakeshwar Singh and others of kidnapping and murdering his brother.
