Former MP Anand Mohan failed to appear in the Judicial Magistrate First Class Court in the case of assault with prisoner Ashok Kumar Mishra in Shaheed Khudiram Bose Central Jail 27 years ago. As a result, his statement could not be recorded and the court has set September 12 as the next date for his appearance. The court had previously closed the process of evidence as no witnesses were produced by the prosecution and is now in the process of recording the statement of the accused former MP.
The case dates back to April 10, 1996, when Ashok Kumar Mishra lodged an FIR at Mithanpura police station. Former MP Anand Mohan, former MLA Munna Shukla, Ramu Thakur, Bablu Srivastava, and an unknown prisoner were accused of bullying in jail. Ashok Kumar was allegedly beaten when he opposed their actions.
After investigating the matter, the police filed a charge sheet against all the accused on April 11, 1997. Two of the accused, Ramu Thakur and Bablu Srivastava, have since passed away. Former MLA Munna Shukla was acquitted after the trial. The trial is currently ongoing in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class Nandani.
In another news, the National President of LJP (Ram Vilas), Chirag Paswan, visited Muhabbatpur and Lakhnauri villages in the Deoria police station area. He met the relatives of a youth who died in police custody and two injured individuals to inquire about the matter. Chirag expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of action taken against the guilty police officer, emphasizing the failure of the government. He pledged to speak to the DGP and request justice for the victim’s relatives, as well as write a letter to the Union Home Ministry for a judicial inquiry. MLA Raju Kumar Singh, present at the event, stated that the Deoria police station has become an example of police atrocities and threatened to launch a nationwide issue and a mass movement if justice is not served to the deceased’s relatives.
