The reason behind this is its price, which is approximately 50 million rupees. This car is known for its luxury and its price ranges between 3 to 5 million rupees. Bihar’s honorable minister will meet the public with a 3 million rupee car, and in addition to that, district magistrates (DM) will have a higher rank than police superintendents (SP) in matters related to vehicles. The administrative cadre committee headed by Chief Secretary Aamir Subhani made the determination of the purchase price of vehicles for ministers, judges, and officials and issued a notification on it.
Ministers and officials at all levels have been given approval to purchase expensive cars compared to before. Bihar’s ministers can now buy cars up to a maximum of 3 million rupees, while upper-level officials like additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries, or secretaries can ride in cars worth up to 2.5 million rupees. High court judges are also placed at the same level as ministers and are given the right to purchase vehicles up to 3 million rupees.
District judges and district magistrates have a maximum purchase price of 2 million rupees, while SPs and their equivalent officers have a limit of 1.6 million rupees. Other officials have an estimated value for vehicles, with a limit of 1.4 million rupees. The same limit has been set for DMs, who can buy cars up to 2 million rupees, which is four lakh rupees more.
The increase in prices ranged from two to five lakh rupees before the year 2023, when the Finance Department determined the maximum prices for vehicle purchases in February 2020. Compared to 2020, this time there has been an increase of approximately 200,000 to 500,000 rupees in the determination of prices. Secretary (Resources) of the Finance Department, Lokesh Kumar Singh, has issued a notification regarding the prices so that there is no arbitrary purchase of cars. This includes the on-road price of the vehicle and other expenses incurred in its decoration.
