The most popular varieties being cultivated are Chiniya and Alpana (G-9), which are considered better than other crops in the area. G-9 bananas have a higher yield, with each tree producing up to 50 kilograms of fruit, compared to an average of 18 to 20 bunches in other varieties. The delicious taste of these bananas makes them a favorite, and they are also used to make delicious dishes.
Premjit Kumar, a farmer from Barahampur village in Mohiuddin Nagar block of Samastipur district, is also engaged in the cultivation of G-9 bananas on a large scale. This has proven to be profitable for him, and he also provides various art forms to people in the surrounding areas. He credits the idea of banana cultivation to a farmer advisor, and has been involved in it since then. During the Chhath Puja festival, he sold over a lakh bananas. He suggests that if traditional farming is not yielding good results economically, then G-9 banana cultivation can be a better alternative, as it can provide up to 5 times the profit.
