Devotees gather for Ganga Dussehra
On the occasion of Ganga Dussehra, devotees in Munger have gathered at various ghats of the Ganga river, from the city to rural areas, to take a holy dip in the river. People started arriving at the ghats as early as 5:00 am to take a bath in the Ganga river. Apart from the ghats in the city such as Kashtharanighat, Sohji Ghat, Babua Ghat, Lallu Pokhar Sidi Ghat, Bhelwa Ghat, there is also a crowd at rural ghats like May, Taufir, Sitakund Deeh Ghat, Maniyarchak, Maheshpur, among others.
Tight security measures in place
Security measures have been tightened at all the ghats in view of Ganga Dussehra. Barbed wire fencing has been put up with the help of nets and bamboo sticks by the police. Additionally, motorboats and Rapid Action Force personnel have been deployed at all the ghats. Police personnel have also been stationed to control the crowd due to the high influx of people at the ghats.
Significance of Ganga Dussehra
Devotees like Shanti Devi, Poonam Jha, Pratima Devi, Priyadarshini Devi, Soni Jha, and others who came to take a dip in the Ganga river on Ganga Dussehra, mentioned that it is a sacred day. They emphasized the importance of taking a bath in the Ganga river on this day, as it is believed to cleanse one of all sins. People also perform auspicious activities on this day and offer prayers in temples after taking a holy dip in the river.
गंगा दशहरा के अवसर पर मुंगेर में श्रद्धालुओं की भीड़ गंगा घाटों पर स्नान करने के लिए जुटी हुई है। गंगा दशहरा के दिन को पावन माना जाता है और इस दिन स्नान करने से सभी पापों से मुक्ति मिलती है। गंगा घाटों पर सुरक्षा के लिए गोताखोर और पुलिस जवानों की तैनाती की गई है। श्रद्धालुओं ने बताया कि वे गंगा स्नान करने के बाद मंदिर में पूजा पाठ कर भगवान से विनती करते हैं।
