The Greenfield Expressway connecting Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh to Manjhi in Bihar is moving rapidly towards completion. According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), approximately 88 percent of the construction work on this ambitious project is now finished. This expressway is officially known as the Ballia Link Expressway and it serves as a vital corridor between eastern Uttar Pradesh and western Bihar. Once operational, the travel time between Ghazipur and Chhapra will be reduced from the current 4 hours to just 90 minutes.

What is the current status and expected completion date?

Project Director Piyush Agarwal from NHAI Azamgarh has confirmed that work is in the final stages with major focus on package four. A 205-meter long Railway Overbridge (ROB) is currently being constructed at Karimuddinpur to ensure smooth transit. Although the earlier target for completion was May 2026, technical factors have shifted the expected opening for traffic to August 2026. The project is being developed in four packages with a total estimated cost between 5,300 crore and 5,500 crore. Security features like an Automatic Traffic Management System (ATMS) and route patrol vehicles will be part of the operational plan.

Key Project Features and Regional Impact

This four-lane greenfield project will connect 86 villages in Ghazipur, 99 villages in Ballia, and 4 villages in the Saran district of Bihar. It is designed for a maximum vehicle speed of 100 kmph and will provide direct access to Lucknow and Delhi via the Purvanchal Expressway. The route will also improve connectivity to Patna, Buxar, and Chhapra, creating new business and employment opportunities in the region. The project includes several structures to manage regional geography and traffic flow.
