Strange Incident in Phulwaria Block of Gopalganj District

A strange incident has come to light in Phulwaria block of Gopalganj district, leaving a poor family curious about the situation. The incident involves Gafoor Barman, a resident of Sripur Bengali Colony, who had applied to the Electricity Department to install meters on boring for farming purposes. However, despite no meter being installed, the department handed over a bill of over 10 lakh rupees to the family.

The Farmer and the Land Received from Bhoodan

Gafoor Barman, a Bangladeshi displaced individual, has been residing in Shripur Bengali Colony for several years. He has been engaged in farming on the land received from Bhoodan. To purchase additional land, he had applied to the Phulwariya Electricity Substation to install an electricity meter on his boring through a franchise in the electricity company a year ago.

However, there was no communication from the company regarding the application. After one year, the family received an electricity bill amounting to 10,87,791 rupees. This shocking bill has left the entire area in disbelief. Local representatives, including Zilla Parishad member Bharat Yadav, have been informed about this incident and have assured the family of resolving the issue by speaking to the local electricity officials.

Money Being Demanded for Electricity Bill Rectification

The household of Gafoor Barman, the affected resident, is being approached by the franchisee of the electricity company to pay a sum of three to four thousand rupees in order to rectify the high electricity bill. Gafoor Barman’s wife has accused the franchisee of demanding cash in exchange for correcting the bill. The franchisee claims that once the cash is received, the inflated amount on the electricity bill will be rectified.

Mirganj Electricity Executive Engineer, Shiv Shankar Kumar, has stated that there was a human error in generating the consumer’s bill on the computer. The consumer has been informed to visit the office, and the incorrect bill will be rectified as soon as they arrive.
