Medicinal Properties of Haldi

Haldi, also known as turmeric, is easily recognizable due to its unique medicinal properties, including antiviral and antibacterial qualities. It has become a popular trend to mix powdered haldi in milk and consume it due to these benefits. Additionally, haldi is an integral part of common people’s diets and is used in various auspicious occasions, such as weddings and other functions, making its demand consistent.

Rajendra Sonia Variety of Haldi

According to Dr. A.K. Mishra, a scientist at the Central Agricultural University in Pusa, the Rajendra Sonia variety of haldi is well-suited for soils like balui, domat, or light domat mitti. Farmers who cultivate this variety can expect a bumper crop yield, with planting recommended at a rate of 50kg per katta. The ready crop can yield around 7 to 8 quintals per katta, with a planting distance of 30×20 cm and a depth of 5 to 6 cm.

Utilizing Fertilizers in the Field

Dr. Mishra suggests using cow dung manure at a rate of 300 quintals per hectare, mixed into the field 20 to 30 days before planting. Nitrogen should be applied at a rate of 100 to 150 kg and potassium at a rate of 100 to 120 kg per hectare. The nitrogen should be divided into three equal parts for application. By following these guidelines, farmers can optimize the growth and yield of the Rajendra Sonia variety of haldi in their fields.
