A strange case has emerged in Gaya, Bihar, where people are falling sick in large numbers. About 300 people have already fallen ill, showing symptoms of diseases like chikungunya, dengue, viral fever, and joint pain. The health department team in Gaya is surprised by such cases. Civil surgeon Ranjan Kumar Singh visited the affected area and spoke to the patients. The health department team collected samples by visiting the homes of 10 patients and sent them to Patna for testing. Based on the test results, medication will be provided.
Civil surgeon Ranjan Kumar Singh stated that chikungunya and dengue are spread by mosquitoes and can be transmitted through mosquito bites during the day. Measures such as using anti-larval drugs to destroy mosquito eggs in stagnant water, using mosquito-killing drugs through fogging, regular cleaning at the community level, and the use of bleaching powder are being taken to prevent the spread of chikungunya and dengue. A door-to-door campaign is being conducted to create awareness and affected patients are being given medicine and ORS distribution instructions.
Nearly 50% of the workers in the textile industry are affected, with an unknown fever spreading for about 50 days. The situation is such that people in the affected areas are starting to avoid going out. The route of transmission for chikungunya is changing as people are taking different paths to avoid it. Viral fever lasts for one to two days to one week, after which it causes unbearable pain, swelling, and itching in all joints. Many households have all family members affected by the illness. Students who went back home for the festival season are also being affected by chikungunya and dengue fever. The platelet count of affected patients drops, and people are consuming papaya leaf juice, kiwi, and dragon fruit to manage the symptoms.
