Continuous Heatwave in Jharkhand

In various parts of Jharkhand, the scorching heatwave continued on the fourth consecutive day on Saturday. The intense heat claimed the lives of 13 people due to the heatstroke. In the past 24 hours, Palamu saw nine deaths, while two deaths were reported in Chatra, and one each in Garhwa and Chaibasa. This brings the total death toll in the state to 60 due to the heatwave. Additionally, 8 people lost their lives due to lightning strikes in the past 24 hours.

Yellow Alert Issued

On Saturday, Medininagar in Palamu recorded a maximum temperature of 45.4 degrees Celsius. However, there has been a slight relief from the heatwave in other parts of the state, including Ranchi. A yellow alert has been issued for the next two days in Palamu, Garhwa, and Latehar due to the ongoing heatwave. There is a possibility of dust storms accompanied by thunder and rain in other parts of the state in the next 24 hours. Some areas may also experience lightning strikes with wind speeds reaching 40 to 50 km/h.

Intense Heatwave in Certain Districts of Jharkhand

The oppressive heatwave is troubling the districts surrounding Palamu in the state. Garhwa recorded a maximum temperature of 45.3 degrees Celsius, while Gumla saw 42.5 degrees, Lohardaga 42.9 degrees, Latehar 40.7 degrees, and Saraikela 41.1 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in Palamu was 30.2 degrees Celsius. The surrounding districts also witnessed an increase in humidity due to the minimum temperature hovering around 30 degrees. Rainfall in many districts brought relief to the residents.

Weather Changes and Tragedies in Jharkhand

The weather changed on Saturday due to rain and thunderstorms in many parts of Jharkhand, providing relief from the intense heatwave. Ranchi saw dense clouds and light rain accompanied by strong winds in the afternoon. There was sporadic rainfall in districts like Chatra, Dhanbad, Jamtara, Ramgarh, and Giridih. According to the weather department, the environment in the state is undergoing changes due to the western winds at the upper levels and easterly winds at lower levels, with these changes expected to continue for the next three days.
