Heavy Rain Forecast

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted favorable conditions for the advancement of the southwest monsoon in parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and northwest Bengal over the next 3 days. Heavy rainfall is expected in states like West Bengal, Sikkim, and Assam, while a heatwave warning has been issued for states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. Alerts have also been issued for states like Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Rajasthan.

Monsoon Updates

According to the IMD forecast, severe heatwaves are likely in parts of Uttar Pradesh from 13-17 June. Western Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand may experience heatwaves on 13th and 14th. Other states like Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan may also face heatwave conditions in the next 5 days. Parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh are expected to receive light rainfall with wind speeds of 40-60 km/hr. India has experienced 1% less rainfall than normal since the start of the monsoon season on June 1st.

States with Rainfall Expectations

During the next five days, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, and Telangana may experience heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and strong winds. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura may also witness extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations from 13-16 June.

States with Heatwave Conditions

Northern and eastern states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Odisha are likely to experience heatwave conditions for four to five days. Meteorological officials have stated that there is no sign of relief from the heatwave in the near future. Delayed monsoon onset may impact temperatures in the plains.
