Hemant Soren’s Bail Plea Hearing Continues in Jharkhand High Court
The hearing on Hemant Soren’s bail plea in Rangan Mukhopadhyay’s court at Jharkhand High Court is ongoing. This is the third day of the hearing on the plea, with the first hearing taking place on June 10th. On the first day, Hemant Soren’s lawyer Kapil Sibal argued that the land being targeted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is not owned by him but is being falsely implicated in a criminal case.
ED Alleges Involvement of Hemant Soren in Land Scam
During the second hearing on June 12th, the ED presented their side, claiming that the disputed land in Bardiyaatoo is indeed owned by Hemant Soren. The ED accused Soren of aiding in illegal land acquisition activities. Several government officials are also suspected of being part of a syndicate involved in illegal land acquisition practices.
Arguments and Counter-arguments in Court
During the hearing on June 10th, there was a heated debate in court for nearly two hours. Sibal argued that the land in question belongs to the forest department and cannot be transferred. However, the ED claimed that the petitioner had illegally occupied the land. The court expressed displeasure over the lack of evidence to support the ED’s claims of land occupation.
Supreme Court Rejects Bail Plea
Before the current proceedings, Hemant Soren had filed a bail plea in the Supreme Court, represented by senior advocate Kapil Sibal. However, the Supreme Court bench rejected the plea, citing lack of disclosure of important facts in the petition. The court also pointed out that the ED’s special court had taken note of Soren’s alleged involvement in a money laundering case, which was not disclosed in the bail plea.
