What’s inside:
A high-value parcel went missing from a train, causing a stir in the Bihar government and railway authorities.
A recent incident has raised concerns about the security of parcel services in Indian Railways. During the journey of the Tatangar-Thave Express, parcels belonging to the brother of Bihar’s PHED minister, Sanjay Singh, went missing. The total value of the goods was over five lakh rupees.
The missing items belonged to Dhananjay Kumar, who runs a well-known leather showroom in Hajipur. He had booked 12 cartons of leather goods worth ₹5,32,751 from Tata Nagar on December 23, but when the train reached Hajipur, the staff found no trace of the parcels.
This incident has created quite a buzz, especially since it took four days for anyone to realize that the parcels were lost. Initial investigations revealed that the train had loaded additional parcels at certain stations, raising suspicions about a possible theft along the route.
Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage from various stations to gather more information. There were also unusual empty spaces in the parcel coach when the train arrived at Muzaffarpur, indicating something was amiss.
The PHED minister has expressed his anger over this negligence, and a letter has been sent to the railway minister seeking intervention. The railway department is now conducting thorough inquiries and questioning the staff involved.
