Historic Hockey Championship at Danapur Bihar Regiment Center
The final match between North India Area and 14 Infantry Division was played at the AstroTurf hockey ground of Danapur Bihar Regiment Center on Wednesday. In an exciting match, North India Area defeated 14 Infantry Division 1-0 to clinch the championship title. The 75 legendary hockey players, along with the winning team, were awarded for their outstanding performance at national and international levels, as well as the referees.
Legacy of Hockey at Bihar Regiment Center
The historic Hockey Bihar Regiment has been a favorite and regimental sport, with top hockey players sweating it out at the stadium. The stadium, first converted into Green AstroTurf ground in 2004, was later transformed into Blue AstroTurf ground in 2019 at Olympic level. The Dung-Dung Stadium is the first AstroTurf ground of the Army, named after the Honorary Captain Sylvanus Dung-Dung, who won a gold medal for India in the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
Championship Title and Future Events
The Mid-Central Hockey Championship 2024-25 was organized to continue the legacy, with the final match played between North India Area and 14 Infantry Division. North India Area emerged victorious by defeating 14 Infantry Division 1-0 in the thrilling match. The winners, along with the excellent players and referees, were duly rewarded. The event was graced by Major General Bharat Mehtani, General Officer Commanding of Jharkhand and Bihar Sub Area, and other dignitaries.
दानापुर बिहार रेजीमेंट केंद्र के एस्ट्रोटर्फ हॉकी ग्राउंड पर बुधवार को उत्तर भारत एरिया और 14 इंफेंट्री डिवीजन के बीच फाइनल मुकाबला खेला गया। इस मुकाबले में उत्तर भारत एरिया ने 14 इंफेंट्री डिवीजन को 1-0 से हराकर चैंपियनशिप अपने नाम किया। इस खिलाड़ी को और रेफरीगणों को पुरस्कार भी दिया गया। इस विजेता टीम के साथ-साथ उत्कृष्ट प्रदर्शन करने वाले खिलाड़ियों एवं रेफरीगणों को भी पुरस्कार किया गया। इस स्टेडियम का नाम ऑनरी कैप्टन शिल्वानुस डुंग ★डुंग के सम्मान में रखा गया है, जिन्होंने वर्ष 1980 में मॉस्को (रूस) में आयोजित ओलंपिक प्रतियोगिता में भारत का प्रतिनिधित्व किया और स्वर्ण पदक जीता। इस विरासत को ध्यान में रखते हुए मध्य कमान हॉकी चैंपियनशिप 2024-25 का आयोजन किया गया।
