Congress Party Demands Nine Lok Sabha Seats in Bihar
In Bihar, the Congress Party is demanding nine Lok Sabha seats from the INDIA alliance. However, it is doubtful whether the party will be granted so many seats. The party may also face difficulties in finding enough candidates to fill these seats, as in the 2019 elections, the party had to select four candidates from outside the party and three of them are no longer active members.
Possibility of Congresswoman Ranjita Ranjan Contesting Elections
Former Congresswoman Ranjita Ranjan, who is currently a member of the Rajya Sabha, has become a member until 2028. Despite serving her tenure in the Rajya Sabha, there have been instances of politicians contesting Lok Sabha elections. Therefore, there is a possibility of Ranjita Ranjan also contesting the upcoming elections.
Potential Strong Candidate – Dr. Akhilesh Prasad Singh
The Congress Party may have a strong candidate in the form of State Congress President Dr. Akhilesh Prasad Singh. Dr. Singh, who is currently a member of the Rajya Sabha, has a tenure until April 2 next year. He has previously served as a Lok Sabha member from East Champaran and has contested Lok Sabha elections from Muzaffarpur as well.
Congress Claims East Champaran Seat
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Dr. Singh’s son Akash was the Grand Alliance candidate from East Champaran. The Congress Party is still claiming this seat. Additionally, Mo. Javed, a Congress candidate, had won the Kishanganj seat in the previous elections, making it certain that he will contest from there again.
Four Candidates from Other Parties
In the 2019 elections, the Congress Party included four candidates from other parties. Shatrughan Sinha, who left BJP and joined Congress, became the candidate from Patna Sahib. Uday Kumar Singh, a former MP who also left BJP for Congress, was made the party candidate from Purnia. Both of them, however, have not been active in the Congress office since their election defeat. Neelam Devi, who was a candidate from Munger, is now an RJD MLA and Tariq Anwar, who came from NCP, holds a senior position in the party and has a claim this time as well.
Current Congress Candidates Willing to Contest
Dr. Ashok Kumar from Samastipur, Shashwat Kedar from Balmiki Nagar, and Meira Kumar from Sasaram are currently in Congress and are willing to contest the upcoming elections. However, it is worth noting that not all party members who consider themselves capable of contesting elections have been successful in the past.
