Shraddha Sahu, a B.Tech student at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bhagalpur, has achieved a significant milestone on the global stage. She received the Best Undergraduate Student Poster Award at the 40th Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) International Conference held in Singapore. Her research offers a new way to track human activity using artificial intelligence.

Details of the event and award
The AAAI-26 conference took place at the Singapore EXPO from January 20 to January 27, 2026. This was the first time this major event happened outside North America. Shraddha presented her work on January 24 under the theme ‘Empowering Global South AI Student Activity.’ The event saw participation from industry experts and academics from countries like the USA, UK, China, France, and South Korea. Her poster was selected for the top honor by a review committee.
How does the new technology work?
Shraddha has spent the last two years researching Human Activity Recognition (HAR). Her innovation focuses on identifying behaviors such as sitting, standing, or walking without the use of cameras. instead of video, the system uses RSSI signals from wireless networks to detect movement. This method addresses privacy concerns that come with video surveillance, making it useful for private spaces like homes and hospitals.
