The weather is set to change again across several parts of India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh alert for 11 states following the approach of a new Western Disturbance. Residents in North India, particularly in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, should prepare for thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rain in the coming days. The sudden shift from warming temperatures back to rain might catch many by surprise.
Which states are on the alert list?
The IMD has identified specific regions that will be impacted by this weather system. The disturbance is active from February 16, causing changes in wind patterns and temperature. Strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km/h are expected in several areas.
- North India: West Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh.
- Central & Other Regions: Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Travelers heading to hill stations like Himachal Pradesh or Uttarakhand should be careful about potential road blocks and snowfall during this period.
What to expect in UP and Bihar?
The weather in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar is expected to take a significant turn. While the days might start clear, clouds and winds will soon take over.
Uttar Pradesh: Western parts of the state will witness rain and storms specifically on February 17 and 18. This sudden rain can impact daily commuters and farmers.
Bihar: The state will see a shift in temperature and increasing fog. Dense fog alerts are already active for many districts, affecting visibility in the early morning hours.
Farmers in these wheat-growing belts need to manage irrigation carefully as the sudden rain could affect crops. Health officials also suggest taking care against seasonal flu due to these temperature fluctuations.
