Kameshwar Singh, the Head of the Department of Jyotish at Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University, provides specific information about the importance of duragaman in Mithila. He explains that when a new bride is bid farewell, it is referred to as duragaman in Mithila. December 3, February 9, March 1, April 7, and May 3 are considered highly auspicious for duragaman.
In December, the 13th, 14th, and 15th are auspicious muhurats. In February, the 15th, 18th, 19th, 21st, 22nd, 25th, 26th, 28th, and 29th are auspicious. In March, the 11th is an auspicious muhurat. In April, the 15th, 21st, 22nd, 24th, 25th, 26th, and 28th are auspicious. In May, the 9th, 10th, and 12th are auspicious muhurats. These auspicious muhurats are chosen by newly married couples to perform the duragaman ceremony within the first year of their marriage.
