Indian Railways is increasing the fares for long-distance travel, effective from December 26, 2025.

Indian Railways has announced a fare hike for long-distance travel. This new fare will come into effect from December 26, 2025.

Passengers traveling over 215 kilometers will need to pay an extra 1 to 2 paise per kilometer. However, there is no change in fares for those traveling less than 215 kilometers or for monthly season ticket holders.

For example, traveling from Delhi to Patna, which is about 1000 kilometers, will cost an additional 20 rupees. Other routes like Mumbai and Bengaluru will see fare increases of around 34 and 54 rupees, respectively.

Currently, the fare from Patna to Delhi in sleeper class is 520 rupees, which will rise to 540 rupees. Similarly, fares for other classes are also being adjusted, increasing by various amounts.

This fare increase is expected to generate an additional 600 crore rupees annually for Railway operations and infrastructure development, ensuring better services for passengers.

Summary:

  • Fare hike effective from December 26, 2025.

  • Extra charge of 1 to 2 paise per kilometer for long journeys.

  • Fares from Patna to Delhi and other routes will increase.

  • No change in fares for short-distance travel.

  • Expected to raise 600 crore rupees for railway improvements.
