What’s inside:

Indian Railways is increasing train fares from December 26, 2025, affecting long-distance travel.

Big news for train travelers! If you are planning to take a long train journey at the end of December, keep this in mind. Starting from December 26, 2025, Indian Railways will raise fares for certain train categories.

This fare hike will affect passengers traveling more than 215 kilometers. For those going shorter distances, there will be no extra charges for now. This means if you travel long distances, you will need to pay a bit more for your ticket.

The new rules state that the fare for passenger trains will slightly increase per kilometer for long distances. Specifically, sleeper and AC coach travelers will see a higher fare compared to before. However, good news for daily commuters, as there are no changes for monthly season ticket holders.

This fare increase is expected to bring in around Rs 600 crore every year for the railways. The management plans to use this extra money to enhance train facilities, maintenance, and overall passenger services.

For example, if you are traveling from Patna to Kolkata, the fare in sleeper class will increase from ₹350 to ₹360. Similarly, if you are heading from Patna to Delhi, the sleeper fare will go up from ₹520 to ₹540. Keep these changes in mind while booking your tickets!

Summary:

  • Train fares will rise from December 26, 2025.

  • Only long-distance journeys over 215 km will see the increase.

  • Sleeper and AC passengers will pay a bit more.

  • Monthly season ticket prices remain unchanged.

  • Extra revenue will improve train services and facilities.
