With the festival of Holi falling on March 4, 2026, the rush of passengers wanting to go home is increasing every day. To manage this heavy crowd, Indian Railways and Northern Railway have announced a big relief for travelers. A total of 108 special trains will run specifically from Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) to various states. This decision is a major help for people from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh who live and work in the capital.

Which stations will these special trains run from?

The Northern Railway has planned these services to start from major hubs like New Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal, Old Delhi, and Hazrat Nizamuddin. These trains are scheduled primarily between late February and late March 2026. The aim is to ensure that everyone gets a confirmed seat to reach home for the festival. Specific routes have been identified based on the high demand usually seen during this season.

  • Subedarganj–Shakur Basti: Weekly special trains will run from March 1 to March 31.
  • Hazrat Nizamuddin–Durg: Train 08751 departs from Durg on March 1 & 2, while Train 08752 returns from Nizamuddin on March 2 & 3.
  • Anand Vihar–Laukaha Bazar: Train 04014 is scheduled to run from February 27 to March 6.
  • Lucknow–New Delhi: Train 04203/04204 will operate on February 23 and March 2.

How to book tickets and what is the fare?

Passengers should note that most of these trains are running as ‘Special Fare’ trains, which means the ticket prices might be slightly higher than regular express trains. The booking for the second phase of these trains opened on February 14, 2026. You can book tickets through the IRCTC website or app, and also at railway station counters. Since the demand is very high for dates between March 1 and March 5, travelers are advised to book as soon as possible.

Northern Railway General Manager Ashok Kumar Verma has stated that officials are monitoring the waiting lists every hour. If the waitlist gets too long, the railways will add extra coaches or run ‘clone trains’ to accommodate more people. Below is the breakdown of special trains planned across different railway zones:

Railway Zone Number of Trains
East Central Railway (ECR) 285
Western Railway (WR) 231
Central Railway (CR) 209
South Central Railway (SCR) 160
