Indian Railways is introducing a new bedroll service for sleeper class passengers starting January 1, 2026.
Big news for train travelers! Indian Railways is making life easier for those traveling in sleeper class. Starting from January 1, 2026, passengers will not need to carry their own bedding. Instead, they will get clean bedrolls just like in AC coaches!
This new service will first be available in the Chennai Division of Southern Railway. It will be called the ‘on-demand bedroll facility.’ Passengers who want this service can request it and pay a small fee for it.
The cost is quite affordable, making it easy for everyone. For example, a single bedsheet will cost just 20 rupees, while a pillow and cover will be 30 rupees. If you want a complete set of bedsheet, pillow, and cover, it will only cost 50 rupees. All bedrolls will be sanitized and packed for safety.
This facility is a result of a successful pilot project run by the Railways in 2023-24. Due to the positive feedback from passengers, they have decided to implement it permanently. This service will especially help during the colder winter months and for long night journeys.
In the beginning, this bedroll service will be available on select trains, including the Nilgiri Superfast Express and Palghat Express, among others. So, passengers can look forward to a more comfortable journey ahead!
