Investigation team reaches Community Health Center to probe infant death case
An investigation team led by Civil Surgeon Anita Kumari, consisting of five members, arrived at Belhar Hospital on Wednesday to probe the case of the death of a newborn at the Community Health Center in Belhar. The team questioned the accused doctor, ANM Mamta, as well as the Medical Officer in charge and other staff members. They also visited the home of the affected woman in Belhar market and spoke to her and her family members to investigate the case.
Details of the case
The incident occurred when Rukmini Kumari’s husband Ranjeet Kumar Sharma was undergoing treatment at the Community Health Center during her pregnancy. She was admitted to the hospital for delivery on May 23. Initially, the doctor stated that everything was fine, but later, complications arose during delivery. Despite requests for referral, the medical staff forcibly conducted the delivery, which resulted in the deteriorating health of the newborn and the mother.
Actions taken by the family
After the referral, the newborn was admitted to hospitals in Devghar, Bhagalpur, and Mayaganj for treatment, but unfortunately, the infant passed away within three days. The family protested at the hospital premises with the deceased newborn, seeking justice and compensation. Following the publication of the news in Prabhat Khabar, the administration took notice of the incident and ordered an investigation.
Investigation and possible consequences
The investigation team, led by Civil Surgeon Dr. Anita Kumari, conducted a thorough inquiry by examining all the facts and questioning relevant individuals. Discrepancies were found in the statements of some individuals, leading to discussions and deliberations on possible actions against the responsible doctors, ANM, and medical staff involved in the case.
बेलहर प्रखंड मुख्यालय स्थित सामुदायिक स्वास्थ्य केंद्र में नवजात की मौत के मामले में जिलाधिकारी के निर्देश पर बुधवार को बांका सिविल सर्जन अनिता कुमारी के नेतृत्व में पांच सदस्य टीम ने जांच की। जांच में डॉक्टर, एएनएम, ममता के साथ-साथ प्रभारी चिकित्सा पदाधिकारी एवं अन्य कर्मियों से पूछताछ की गई। परिजनों ने चिकित्सा कर्मियों के खिलाफ हंगामा किया था जिसके चलते जांच की गई। जिलाधिकारी ने कार्रवाई के आदेश दिया है।
