Jharkhand Man Dies in Uttarakhand Tunnel Accident
A man from Jharkhand died just a few hours before his son, who was trapped in the unfinished Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarakhand, was rescued. The 70-year-old father, Baset alias Barsha Murmu, was worried about his 28-year-old son, Bhaktu, as he had heard about the tunnel collapse on November 12.
Bhaktu, a resident of Bahda village in East Singhbhum district, died on Tuesday morning around 8 am while sitting on his cot, about 12 hours before the rescue team reached the end of the tunnel where he was trapped.
The local authorities in Uttarakhand have not yet confirmed the cause of death, but it is suspected to be a heart attack. Bhaktu’s mother, Murmu, who was present at the time of his death, mentioned that he was worried about his son and suddenly fell off his cot, leading to his demise.
The family members have stated that Murmu was eagerly waiting for information about his son’s rescue. The officer in charge of Dumaria police station, Sanjivan Oranv, who visited the victim’s house, stated that the cause of death is still unknown.
Dr. Jhujar Manjhi, the civil surgeon of East Singhbhum, confirmed that they have received information about the death, but they are yet to receive any medical reports. Bhaktu, along with 14 other people from Jharkhand, was undergoing medical examination at AIIMS Rishikesh, where he arrived with the others for health check-ups on Wednesday afternoon.
Rajesh Kumar Sharma, the labor secretary of Jharkhand, has informed that the Uttarakhand government is keeping a close watch on the workers. As soon as they are discharged from the hospital, they will be flown back to Ranchi via air route.
