Alamgir Alam Resigns from Ministerial Post
Jharkhand Minister Alamgir Alam is currently in jail in connection with a financial scam. He has now resigned from his position in the state cabinet as well as the leader of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP).
Letter of Resignation
Alam has submitted his resignation from the cabinet minister position in a letter to Chief Minister Hemant Soren. He has also written another letter to Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge resigning from the post of leader of the Jharkhand Congress Legislative Party.
Case Details
Congress leader and state Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam, along with his former private secretary Sanjeev Kumar Lal and his domestic aide Jahangir Alam, were arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on May 15. The agency claimed to have seized over Rs 32 crore from where Jahangir Alam resided.
Bharatiya Janata Party’s Demand for Removal
The opposition BJP in the state had demanded Alam’s removal from the Hemant Soren cabinet last week. Prior to this, the Chief Minister had given Alam charge of all four departments ★Parliamentary Affairs, Rural Development, Rural Works, and Panchayati Raj.
