Champai Soren to be Sworn in as Chief Minister of Jharkhand
The formation of a new government is underway in Jharkhand, and Champai Soren, the leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), will be taking oath as the Chief Minister of the state today. Remarkably, in the 24th year since the formation of Jharkhand in 2000, Champai Soren will become the 12th Chief Minister. It is noteworthy that out of the previous 11 times, only 6 individuals have had the opportunity to become Chief Minister. Champai Soren will be the 7th leader to take oath as the Chief Minister of the state. Previously, Babulal Marandi, Arjun Munda, Shibu Soren, Madhu Koda, Hemant Soren, and Raghubar Das have had the opportunity to become the Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
Political Instability in Jharkhand since its Formation
Jharkhand, which was formed on November 15, 2000, has experienced political instability since its separation from Bihar. From Babulal Marandi, who became the Chief Minister after taking charge of the state, to Raghubar Das, no Chief Minister has completed their term so far. Arjun Munda and Shibu Soren have been Chief Ministers three times each, Hemant Soren has been Chief Minister twice, while Babulal Marandi, Madhu Koda, and Raghubar Das have held the position once. Now, Champai Soren is set to take oath as the 12th Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
The Legacy of Chief Ministers in Jharkhand
Despite being a non-party member, Madhu Koda became the Chief Minister of Jharkhand on September 18, 2006, and took oath as the 5th CM of the state. However, he did not complete his term and resigned in less than two years. It is worth mentioning that his name is recorded in the Limca Book of World Records for becoming a Chief Minister despite being an independent legislator. Hemant Soren, the son of Shibu Soren, has already served as the Chief Minister of the state twice. Interestingly, he also could not complete his term the first time and had to resign just 10 months ago due to involvement in a land scam.
