Let’s learn more about who Karpoori Thakur was, known as the Jan Nayak.

Early Life and Political Journey

Karpoori Thakur was born in a village called Pitaurjhiya in Samastipur during the British colonial rule in India, in a family belonging to the barber caste. Due to his birthplace, the village is now known as Karpoorigram. He was a true soldier of socialism and actively participated in the Quit India Movement at the age of only seventeen, landing him in jail. He was a true disciple of freedom fighter Jayaprakash Narayan and socialist thinker Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia.
