Smart Bus Stand Issue in Bhagalpur
The Bhagalpur Smart City does not have a smart bus stand, posing a challenge for running smart buses in the region. The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation’s Bhagalpur Regional Office is in a dilapidated condition, with a building that is nearly 150 years old. The lack of basic facilities like shade and drinking water at the bus stand is a cause for concern.
Lack of Basic Facilities
The bus stand is in a sorry state, with no provision for drinking water. Although an RO system has been installed by ICICI, it is not functional. Despite the potential for earning lakhs of rupees daily from the bus stand, there is a severe lack of basic amenities. Buses from this stand connect to various districts like Begusarai, Purnia, Katihar, Khagaria, Araria, and others.
Urgent Need for Improvement
Pawan Shandilya, Regional Manager of Bihar State Road Transport Corporation’s Bhagalpur branch, highlighted the lack of basic facilities at the office building. The building is very old and requires substantial improvements, especially in the face of severe water scarcity during the scorching summer months. The presence of only two dysfunctional hand pumps exacerbates the situation.
Safety Concerns
The lack of fundamental facilities at the Bhagalpur branch of the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation is a safety hazard. The absence of proper toilets and the dilapidated condition of the building pose risks to the employees. The presence of snakes and other wild animals in the vicinity further adds to the safety concerns. Immediate action is required to address these issues before any unfortunate incident occurs.
