Shortage of Driver Training Facilities in Bihar
The state of Bihar is facing a severe shortage of driver training facilities. The only government driver training center in the state is located in Aurangabad district, where only government vehicle drivers are trained. However, there are around four to five recognized training centers operating in different districts, where government standards are often not followed, leading to accidents due to inadequate training.
Increase in Vehicle Sales and Issuance of Driving Licenses
On average, around 35,700 driving licenses are issued every month in Bihar. The state has seen a rise in vehicle sales, with over 1,55,057 new vehicles sold in 2023 as compared to 1,20,460 in 2022. This increase in the number of vehicles on the roads has raised concerns about road safety and traffic management among experts.
Strict Regulations for License Issuance
Experts emphasize the need for strict regulations in the issuance of driving licenses to ensure that only trained individuals receive them. In recent months, there has been a crackdown on issuing licenses without proper training, making it difficult for untrained drivers to obtain licenses. This move aims to reduce the risk of accidents caused by inexperienced drivers on the roads.
