Lalan Singh Resigns as National President of JDU

Lalan Singh, the national president of JDU, has resigned from his position. On Friday, a meeting of JDU’s national executive was held in Delhi where Lalan Singh presented his resignation, which was accepted. Lalan Singh is considered a prominent leader in the party and is known for his close association with Nitish Kumar. He has stepped down from the position of national president in order to focus on the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections and has expressed his support for Nitish Kumar to become the new national president of JDU.

A Brief Political Journey of Lalan Singh

Lalan Singh, also known as Rajiv Ranjan Singh, is a Member of Parliament from Munger. He holds a significant position in the Bhumihar community of Begusarai. He began his political career during his college days as the general secretary of the student union at TNB College in Bhagalpur. He actively participated in the JP movement led by Jayaprakash Narayan. In 2004, he contested and won the Lok Sabha elections from Begusarai as a JDU candidate. He has held various positions within the party, including the Bihar state president.

Changes in Lalan Singh’s Political Career

Throughout his political career, Lalan Singh has faced ups and downs within JDU. He was removed from the position of state president due to his opposition to Nitish Kumar in 2010. However, he regained his position after developing a close bond with Nitish Kumar again in 2013. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he emerged victorious from the Munger constituency as a JDU candidate. Despite his successes, he has now resigned as the national president of JDU, and Nitish Kumar will take charge of the party.

JDU’s Alliance and Lalan Singh’s Resignation

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, JDU and BJP formed an alliance in Bihar. JDU contested 39 seats and Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister for the second time. However, JDU faced internal conflicts and removed Arun Kumar as its national president, accusing him of being close to BJP and working against the party’s interests. Lalan Singh was then appointed as the national president on July 31, 2021. Under his leadership, JDU failed to become a national party. Now, with the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, JDU and BJP have taken separate paths, and Nitish Kumar has regained control of the party. JDU is forming an alliance with RJD, Congress, and other left parties, while opposition parties have united against BJP.
