What’s inside:

Lalu Prasad Yadav has approached the Delhi High Court against a trial court’s decision in a corruption case related to the IRCTC scam.

Lalu Prasad Yadav, who used to be the Chief Minister of Bihar, is currently facing legal issues. He has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court to challenge a trial court’s ruling. This ruling involves charges of corruption and criminal conspiracy in what is being called the IRCTC scam. The hearing for this petition is scheduled for Monday, January 5, in front of Justice Swaran Kant Sharma.

The trial court had framed these charges back in October 2025. It claims that Lalu, during his time as the Union Railway Minister, misused his position to unfairly influence the tender process for Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). His wife, Rabri Devi, and son, Tejashwi Yadav, are also facing similar charges related to this case.

The court found that Lalu was aware of the alleged wrongdoing and had a role in the decision-making that led to significant financial losses for the government. The case began in 2017 when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case against him, his family, and several officials from IRCTC and other private individuals.

According to the CBI, between 2004 and 2009, when Lalu was the Railway Minister, there was a scheme to offer land and shares as bribes to those involved in hotel tenders linked to IRCTC in Patna and Puri. After looking into the matter, the CBI has filed a charge sheet against Lalu and eleven others.

As the legal process continues, Lalu Prasad Yadav will have his day in court soon. The upcoming hearing will be crucial in deciding the next steps for him and the others involved in this case.

  • Lalu Prasad Yadav is challenging a trial court’s corruption charges in the Delhi High Court.

  • The charges relate to his time as Union Railway Minister and the IRCTC scam.
