**Lok Janshakti Party Chief Chirag Paswan**
In politics, time changes quickly. A fresh example is Chirag Paswan, a leader of Lok Janshakti Party who has been in political exile for a long time. Once considered as Modi’s devotee by BJP, he was sidelined by his uncle Pashupati Paras and left to fend for himself. But now the tables have turned, and Chirag is now the apple of BJP’s eye.
**The Beginning of Chirag’s Tough Times**
Chirag’s tough times began with the 2021 Bihar Assembly elections. Amidst rivalry with Nitish, he led the party to the battlefield with the slogan of ‘Bihari First’. Despite distancing from the alliance, BJP only fielded candidates on JDU’s seats. With only one seat victory and losses on a dozen others, JDU’s status was diminished, leaving BJP and JDU at odds.
**The BJP-JDU Rift and Chirag’s Support**
Displeased with the losses, Nitish lashed out at Chirag’s uncle, Pashupati Paras. A revolt against Chirag ensued, with five out of six MPs deserting him. BJP, in an awkward position, not only favored Paras but also appointed him as a cabinet minister in place of the late Ram Vilas Paswan.
**Chirag’s Crucial Role in BJP Alliance**
Chirag played a crucial role in convincing his father, Ram Vilas Paswan, to form an alliance with BJP before the 2014 elections. He shaped the party’s strategy in the subsequent elections. When Ram Vilas decided to step down from the Rajya Sabha due to poor health, Chirag insisted on fielding Paras from the traditional Hajipur seat. However, after Ram Vilas’s demise, Paras separated Chirag from the party.
