Loksabha Election in Jharkhand
In the recent Lok Sabha elections in Jharkhand, there has been a decrease in the trend of not liking any candidate among the voters. In the 2014 elections, 1.49% of voters opted for NOTA (None of the Above), whereas in 2019, this decreased to 1.27% of voters using NOTA.
Supreme Court Mandate on NOTA
The Supreme Court made NOTA an option in 2013, and for the first time in the 2014 elections, voters were given this choice. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, there were five seats in the state where more than 2% of votes went to NOTA. However, in the 2019 elections, the number of such seats decreased to three.
Changes in Voting Trends
In the 2014 elections, more than 2% of votes went to NOTA in Khunti, Singhbhum, Lohardaga, Rajmahal, and Dumka. Whereas in 2019, Khunti, Singhbhum, and Koderma saw more than 2% votes going to NOTA. However, the percentage of voters opting for NOTA decreased in these constituencies in 2019 compared to 2014.
Decrease in NOTA Votes
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, 11 out of the 13 seats in the state saw a decrease in NOTA votes compared to the 2014 elections. Only three seats saw an increase in NOTA votes, which included Chatra, Giridih, and Godda. Palamu, Lohardaga, Ranchi, Khunti, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Dhanbad, Jamshedpur, Singhbhum, Rajmahal, and Dumka saw a decrease in NOTA votes.
