Heatwave creating problems for people across the state

The scorching heat is causing distress to people across the state, with the weather and health department advising various measures to stay protected from the sun. It is essential for vulnerable individuals to avoid going outside. In light of this intense heat, local 18 spoke to Dr. Sushil Kumar, the Deputy Superintendent of Benipatti Sub Divisional Hospital, about how to find relief from the heat and what precautions people should take while being out in the sun.

Doctor’s recommendations to beat the heat

Dr. Kumar explained that heatwave is not a new phenomenon and has been causing issues every year, but medical science has found solutions to combat it. While we generally pay attention to certain things, there are specific aspects that we tend to overlook, as pointed out by the doctor.

Tips to stay safe and healthy in the heat

Dr. Kumar suggests regular consumption of glucose water or electrolyte powder, along with consuming yogurt, watermelon, cucumber, and other cooling foods. He also advises drinking 6 to 8 liters of water per day. Additionally, he recommends wearing cotton clothes in the heat, avoiding dark-colored clothing, refraining from spicy foods, and staying away from smoking to ensure proper breathing. It is crucial to pay attention to symptoms like sudden high fever, extreme fatigue, dizziness, unconsciousness, headache, dizziness, dark-colored urine, and vomiting, and contact a doctor if these signs appear.
