Over 50 Children Fall Ill After Mid-Day Meal in Bihar
In Majhaulia block of Pashchim Champaran district, chaos erupted at the Parsa Utkramit Madhya Vidyalaya when more than 50 children suddenly fell sick after consuming the mid-day meal. The children complained of severe stomach pain and restlessness. Alarmed by their deteriorating condition, the school administration admitted a total of 152 children to the hospital based on suspicion. Out of these, 51 children were found to be ill.
Emergency Medical Assistance Provided to Affected Children
Upon receiving information from the Block Development Officer Varun Kethan, ambulances were immediately dispatched from the hospital to transport all the children to the Community Health Center in Majhaulia for treatment. It is noteworthy that three of the sick children were referred to the Betiya GMC Hospital. As a precautionary measure, all the children were provided with ORS by the NGO after consuming the mid-day meal, as they began experiencing sudden stomach pain and restlessness. The number of affected children gradually increased, leading the village head Shivshankar Thakur to inform both the local police station and the hospital administration.
Investigation Conducted on the Cause of Illness
The ambulances and police vehicles arrived at the scene and transported the children to the hospital for medical treatment. All 152 children from the school were taken to the hospital for examination based on suspicion, and the necessary tests were conducted. Students from the school, such as Nandini Kumari, Jyoti Kumari, Ankit Kumari, and others, revealed that along with rice, they were served chana dal (gram lentils) for the meal. Shortly after consuming the meal, they began experiencing sudden stomach pain. The pain was so intense that it became difficult to bear. They immediately reported their discomfort to the principal. Civil surgeon Dr. Shrikant Dubey confirmed that treatment was being provided to the 51 affected children and three of them were referred to the Betiya GMC Hospital based on their family’s request.
पश्चिम चम्पारण जिले के मझौलिया प्रखंड के परसा उत्क्रमित मध्य विद्यालय में मिड डे मिल खाने के बाद अचानक 50 से अधिक बच्चे बीमार हो गए। उनके पेट में जोरदार दर्द और मन बेचैनी हो गई। इसके बाद विद्यालय में घंटों अफरा-तफरी मच गई और 152 बच्चों को अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया। इस मामले में प्रखंड विकास पदाधिकारी वरुण केतन ने एम्बुलेंस भेजकर बच्चों को इलाज के लिए सामुदायिक स्वास्थ्य केंद्र मझौलिया ले जाया। 51 बच्चों का इलाज शुरू हो चुका है और तीन बच्चों को बेतिया जीएमसीएच में रेफर कर दिया गया है। बच्चों ने खाने में चावल के साथ चने की दाल खाई थी और इसके बाद उन्हें दर्द हो गया। इस मामले में मुखिया शिवशंकर ठाकुर ने भी बच्चों की सुरक्षा के लिए कड़ी कार्रवाई की है।
