This article covers the Vijayadashami celebrations in Mokama and Paliganj, where effigies of Ravana were burned to mark the victory of good over evil.

This year, the people of Mokama celebrated Vijayadashami by burning effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghnad. The event took place on Thursday at the SKM school campus. The effigies were huge, with Ravana standing at 60 feet and the others at 55 feet each. The crowd cheered with “Jai Shri Ram” as the effigies went up in flames.

The Vice Chancellor of Pataliputra University, Upendra Prasad Singh, was the chief guest at the event. A special guest, DIG Ravindra Bhagat, spoke about how Ravana and his companions symbolize injustice and ego. He reminded everyone that the burning of Ravana’s effigy is a reminder to stay on the right path and draw inspiration from the Navratri festival.

In Paliganj, a similar celebration occurred at the local high school playground. Thousands of villagers gathered to watch the burning of Ravana and Kumbhakarna’s effigies. The chief guest, Siddharth, who is a development commissioner, expressed his wishes for a prosperous Vijayadashami and promised to work on the area’s development.

Notably, the Ravana Dahan tradition started in Mokama around the 1980s and has continued ever since. It is one of the few places in the district where such a ceremony is held each year. The local administration, led by SDM Chandan Kumar, ensured all safety measures were in place for the event.

As the evening progressed, the celebrations included fireworks, and people left their homes with families to witness the spectacle. With strong security and a festive atmosphere, both Mokama and Paliganj successfully marked the triumph of good over evil in their own unique ways.
