Bhagalpur News: Early Arrival of Monsoon in Eastern Bihar
Parts of Eastern Bihar, including Seemanchal, Kosi, and Santhal Pargana, are experiencing extreme heat and heatwave conditions. However, there is good news as the monsoon may become active in these areas before the scheduled time. By May 31st afternoon, the monsoon had covered the entire North East and reached the Kishanganj border in Bihar. The record for monsoon arrival in this region usually stands at June 10th.
Delayed Monsoon Entry in Bihar
As of now, the monsoon entry has not yet occurred in Bihar. If the current pace continues, the monsoon may reach districts around Bhagalpur by June 12th. It is noteworthy that Kishanganj and Santhal Pargana are usually the first areas in the state to receive the monsoon entry, which is happening through Kishanganj this time.
Weather Conditions and Forecast
The recent drop in temperature, along with light rain in the mornings, has provided some relief from the scorching heat in the region. The minimum temperature on Friday morning reached 24 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature in the afternoon was 32 degrees Celsius. The wind was blowing at a speed of 11.2 km/h, with a humidity level of 78%. There is a possibility of light rain and increased temperatures in Bhagalpur district between June 2nd and 4th.
Impact on Agriculture and Recommendations
The monsoon brings an average of 1100 mm of rainfall to Bhagalpur district from mid-June to the first week of October. Farmers are advised to irrigate their crops as needed and ensure sufficient water for their livestock. Last year, the monsoon remained active in the region for 116 days from June 20th to October 13th, with a record of over 1425 mm of rainfall. This led to successful rice cultivation in Bhagalpur and Banka districts, exceeding the target by over 90%.
