Introduction
In the village of Vasudevpur in Samastipur district, Bihar, farmer Monu Kumar is cultivating beetroot in his one-acre field. There are very few farmers in this area who are growing beetroot, but it has proven to be a profitable crop with low investment. Beetroot cultivation is similar to regular farming and requires minimal expenses, making it a cost-effective choice for farmers.
Transition to Beetroot Cultivation
Initially, Monu Kumar used to cultivate crops like wheat, potatoes, corn, rice, and mustard in his ancestral land, but the profits were not significant. Seeing the success of beetroot cultivation in the region, he decided to grow this crop in his own fields. Over the past five to six years, he has been successfully cultivating beetroot in his one-acre field, using organic fertilizers and pesticides, as the area was previously known for growing paddy.
Profitability and Harvesting
Monu Kumar mentioned that beetroot cultivation has been a part of their farming practices for several years now. The preparation of the field is done before sowing the seeds at a distance of three inches from each other. The crop is ready for harvesting after 120 days of sowing. With proper irrigation and fertilization, the crop yields around 7 to 8 quintals per acre. However, with optimal conditions, the yield can go up to 10 quintals, allowing the farmers to earn an income of around 5 to 5.5 lakhs rupees per acre.
रितेश कुमार या समस्तीपुर जिले के वासुदेवपुर गांव के किसान मोनू कुमार ने चुकंदर की खेती करने का निर्णय लिया है। इसके लिए उन्होंने अपने एक बीघा खेत में चुकंदर की खेती शुरू की है। इस इलाके में चुकंदर की खेती करने वाले किसान बहुत कम हैं, इसलिए उन्हें इससे कम खर्च में बेहतर मुनाफा हो रहा है। चुकंदर की खेती सामान्य खेती की तरह होती है और इसमें काफी कम खर्च आता है। चुकंदर की खेती करने से पहले सितंबर से मार्च के महीनों के बीच खेती करने से बेहतर उत्पादन होता है और बाजार में अच्छा रेट मिलता है। मोनू कुमार ने बताया कि वे पिछले 5-6 वर्षों से चुकंदर की खेती कर रहे हैं और अब एक कट्ठा खेत से 7 से 8 क्विंटल तक फसल निकाल रहे हैं। इससे वे 5 से 5.50 लाख रुपए की आमदनी कर रहे हैं।
