Muzaffarpur is seeing a major shift in how households get their cooking gas. With LPG shortages becoming more frequent, the demand for Piped Natural Gas (PNG) has reached a new high. Every day, approximately 60 new homes are getting connected to the pipeline network. Areas like Gaushala Road, Zero Mile, and Bawan Bigha are being covered on a priority basis to ensure residents get a steady supply of fuel without the hassle of cylinder bookings.

Key Progress Data for Muzaffarpur PNG Project

The expansion work is being managed by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). As of April 2026, thousands of residents have already started using the service. The district administration is monitoring the progress to ensure that there are no further delays for consumers who have already installed meters and internal wiring. This project aims to provide a safe and cost-effective alternative to traditional cylinders.

Category Current Status

New Mandatory Rules for Gas Consumers

The central government has issued a new order regarding fuel distribution. According to the Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order 2026, consumers living in areas where the pipeline network is available must switch from LPG to PNG. There is a 90-day window to complete this transition. If the connection is not taken within three months, the supply of LPG cylinders will be stopped permanently. This initiative is aimed at reducing dependence on expensive logistics and promoting cleaner energy across Bihar.
