Sonpur Railway Division to Reduce Parcel Fare for Farmers and Traders
Sonpur Railway Division has taken the initiative to reduce parcel fare in order to provide fair prices and markets for farmers’ produce. This step aims to benefit both farmers and traders. To implement this, a three-member survey cell team has been formed, which has started engaging with farmers from various districts associated with the Railway Division. The team will submit its report within a week and, upon obtaining permission from higher officials of East Central Railway, the reduced fare will be implemented across the entire Sonpur Railway Division. This will enable easy transportation of vegetables, fruits, milk, curd, and other products to other states.
29 Quintal Gagal Lemon Sent to Mumbai via Pawan Express
A shipment of 29 quintals of Gagal lemon was sent to Mumbai from Muzaffarpur Junction aboard Pawan Express on Friday. Traders in Mumbai are storing these lemons in cold storage for the upcoming Chhath Puja festival. Following the success of this transportation, Sonpur Railway Division has decided to promote the transportation of other agricultural products as well. This will facilitate the transportation of various vegetables and fruits produced in the region to other states.
Meeting Between Senior DCM and Farmers
Senior DCM recently held a meeting with dozens of farmers at Khudiram Bose Pusa station to discuss the transportation of vegetables. The farmers agreed to book parcels for sending vegetables, but raised concerns about the high fares. There were also discussions about sending brinjals to Howrah from Mohiuddinnagar in Samastipur. In response to these concerns, Senior DCM Roshan Kumar initiated efforts to reduce the parcel fare and formed a three-member survey cell team, which includes commercial, operating, and finance railway employees.
Implementation of Low Fare across Sonpur Railway Division
After the survey cell team submits its report to the Sonpur Senior DCM, the reduced fare will be implemented across the Sonpur Railway Division upon obtaining permission from higher officials of East Central Railway. Currently, different slabs of fares are charged for parcel transportation in important mail-express trains, with lower slabs for important and weekly trains. For example, the fare for Pawan Express is Rs 7 per kg parcel, while it is Rs 3 per kg for weekly trains. Traders are already considering the advantages of sending parcels by rail, such as lower cost and shorter transit time, and are planning to send various fruits to different parts of the country through railways.
