Rise of Shahi Litchi in Muzaffarpur

Muzaffarpur is known for its Shahi Litchi, with no other alternative coming close to its popularity. This has led to an increase in the number of litchi enthusiasts visiting the region. Last year, people from Gulf countries tasted 15 tons of litchi from Muzaffarpur, and this year, even more litchi is expected to be exported, including to Europe and America.

Export Planning and Collaboration

Representatives of export companies have already started visiting Muzaffarpur to gather information about the quality of litchi, collaborating with scientists at the Integrated Horticulture Development Research Institute. The Litchi Producers Association will also assist in maintaining the quality of litchi for export to foreign countries, which poses a significant challenge.

Expanding Market Reach

The Litchi Producers Association is now planning to export Shahi Litchi not only to Gulf countries but also to Europe and America. With the establishment of a cold storage facility by May, they aim to meet the quality standards of these countries and supply litchis accordingly. The production is expected to exceed 70,000 tons this year, benefiting around 25,000 farmers directly involved in litchi cultivation in the region.
